Our neighborhood, Kókkini Porta (Red Gate, or Red Door), after years of neglect, had lost most of its beauty. Its aging people had stopped hoping for anything better.
We decided from the beginning that the neighborhood would become a key part of our project. Our hotel was named KÓKKINI PORTA ROSSA to always remind us of our decision.
As soon as our intentions and the results of our work started showing, the neighbors and the authorities gladly joined in. Their attitude has been a great reward.
Some of the things we had in mind to do have already been completed: the sarcophagus, the church, the next door ruin, the abandoned public toilets.
There will always be enough tasks to keep us busy. The moat, the castle and the nearby streets will never stop asking for care.
